Three spots for the $250,000 tournament will be decided through the qualifying process kicking off on April 8.
IEM Summer 2021, the ESL Pro Tour Masters level event scheduled for June 3-13, will feature a total of 16 teams, of which three will earn their spot through the European qualifiers.
The road to IEM Summer will kick off with two open qualifiers, on April 8-9 and April 19-20, with two teams advancing from each. Those open qualifier teams will join eight invited teams in the closed qualifier, scheduled for 26-28 April, when the three main event teams will be found.
All 12 teams in the closed qualifier won't be put on a level playing field, though, as the four open qualifier teams will face the four low-seed invites in an initial, single-elimination round. The winners of those matches will join the four high-seed invites in an eight-team double-elimination BO3 bracket.
The schedule for IEM Summer qualifiers is follows:
Open Qualifier #1: 8-9 April - Signup
Open Qualifier #2: 19-20 April - Signup
Closed Qualifier: 26-28 April
The qualifiers will only take place in Europe, as North and South American representatives were decided through their regional DreamHack Open March events. Caio "zqkS" Fonseca's Imperial and Josh "oSee" Ohm's Extra Salt will be attending the event, with the latter team set to compete in three more European tournaments during their stay on the Old Continent - BLAST Premier Spring Showdown, FunSpark ULTI Europe Final, and DreamHack Masters Spring.
Teams invited to the main event or the closed qualifier have not yet been announced.
